Science v. Story: Narrative Strategies for Science Communicators

Thursday, February 29, 2004 – 10 am PST / 1 pm EST / 7 pm CET

The International Environmental Communication Association (IECA) is set to host an engaging session on February 29 featuring Emma Frances Bloomfield, author of «SCIENCE V. STORY: Narrative Strategies for Science Communicators.» The book highlights the importance of storytelling in making scientific knowledge accessible and engaging for a wider audience. The traditional approach of presenting science, which relies heavily on facts and data, often leads to public skepticism and disinterest.

During the presentation, we will discuss using a transformative approach incorporating narrative techniques to make scientific information more relatable and captivating. We will discuss the concept of narrative webs, a mapping tool designed to visualize and improve how stories can be used in science communication. This method emphasizes integrating characters, actions, and sequences into scientific narratives, making complex information understandable and engaging.

The book presentation will highlight the innovative strategies within «SCIENCE V. STORY.» It will include a dynamic Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage directly with Bloomfield on ways to think differently when communicating science or environmental issues.

All are welcome. Pre-registration is required: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJMrdemhrD4uEtQE84iAN4aD4fX8JUK1q5DF
